It's a huge game tonight for the Trail Smoke Eaters. In the middle of a seven game losing streak but coming off a very good effort against Westside, the Smokies absolutely must have these games against Merritt. Their playoff lives are not on the line, but their confidence and any momentum they could get are. Two wins against Merritt and a strong effort against Vernon puts them in a much better position heading into the start of the playoffs. Three more losses and their confidence may completely evaporate. Hockey is such a mental game that while these games are relatively meaningless in the standings (If PG wins twice against Quesnel or if they win once and Trail loses just once in the next three the Spruce Kings finish 5th), they are as big as any that Trail has played all year.
