Timberwolves President Speaks, Player Commits

(Williams Lake owners John Wright and Richard Kohlen from their website)

I had the pleasure of speaking to John Wright today about a great number of things from Coach Fox's resignation to their new GM to the state of their franchise and the state of the league. He has some interesting things to say so I think it's worth a listen. A northern division? A draft? A competitive expansion franchise? What do you think of what he has to say?

The other piece of news in this interview? Williams Lake has announced their first commitment for next season. 17 year old Trent Murdoch will head up to Williams Lake from Comox. The son of new Timberwolves GM Geoff Murdoch has 27 goals and 35 assists in 42 VIJHL junior B games this season. Trent certainly seems to have the kind of scoring punch necessary to make a leap to the BCHL next season. Some people might react negatively to a team bringing in the son of their GM, but it's not like the situation never works out. You can't really argue with grabbing a 17 year old who is tied for second in VIJHL scoring. So it beings for the new wolves...

UPDATE: If you were wondering what the economic difficulties were that I was asking about, Ryan Pinder over at the Vees blog found a link spelling some of them out. It's tough everywhere right now. Hopefully all the BCHL teams can get through this recession and come out stronger at the end of it.
