Roche and Dubielewicz help Canada to an opening win

(Roche gets instruction from some random coach)

Former Smoke Eater Travis Roche scored once and had an assist in a 7-6 Canada win over Karlovy of the Czech Republic. Canada won the game in a shoot out after what was a back and fourth battle to open the Spengler Cup tournament. Former Clipper David LeNeveu got the start while former Smoke Eater Wade Dubielewicz was his back up. Wade replaced LeNeveu in the third period and took Canada to a W. Not a bad start although I would imagine Coach Craig MacTavish won't be psyched about all the goals against.

I'm right now watching Canada demolish Latvia at the World Juniors. Ugly stuff but not unexpected. Tonight Castlegar's Luke Walker and Team USA open the World Juniors against Slovakia. Another Castlegar boy Aaron Hadley will be with Team Pacific in the World Under 17s which start on Tuesday.
