Boisvert to McGill

(Boisvert in his final Smoke Eaters game - Photo Randy Emery)

Add J.F. Boisvert's name to the list of departing Smokies as the 1989 born sniper and Interior Conference All-Star has decided to attend McGill University next season. Boisvert had some NCAA Division I interest, but unless a player gets the "full ride" scholarship that can be exceptionally costly. Instead J.F. is going to a very good school right in his backyard. McGill has a strong hockey program and are second in their division.

The departure of Boisvert of course makes it more and more important for Trail to track down additional scoring in the off season. That being said, there's a limit to how many 20 year olds Trail can bring back. There are other 89 born players like Nick Sandor, Sean Nugent, Patrick Raley, Riley Loyst, Adam Gummer and Paul Barclay who could return. This decision opens the door to have all of them come back barring a trade.

Congratulations to Boisvert who had a very good season with Trail and earned himself a spot on a top notch Canadian University team. We'll miss having him here next season and I know I'll miss being able to call out "Et Le But!"

Don't forget for anyone interested in getting a foot in the door with the Smokies, they're holding a spring camp in Princeton this April. For details check out http://www.trailsmokeeaters.ca/ and I'll be talking to Coach Jim Ingram about the camp tomorrow night on Overtime.

Also check out the comments on the Trail Times post to see a very well thought out note from former Smoke Eater (and Nitehawk) Stef Decosse. He has an excellent view of things because of his time in both the KIJHL and BCHL. Thanks Stef! I keep saying I think he's gonna be stealing my job someday.
