Aiken Interview

August Aiken told us about his scholarship opportunity today on Overtime.

I'll have a post soon on the spring camp experience of one of the guys who attended it. I'll also be interviewing another new Smoke Eater on Overtime tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Shawn,
I write a blog on UAA Seawolf Hockey and was thrilled to see your excellent coverage of this signing. Let me clear up a couple of possible misconceptions though ...

Not all the rinks in the WCHA are olympic-sized but the majority are. Coach Shyiak is trying to build a team that is a good mix of size and speed. August will be joining former Westside teammate Tommy Grant (5g,2a in 31games) along with 6 other former BCHLers.

I first noticed August the season before last and imagine that the Seawolf staff has been tracking him for about the same amount of time. I love hearing the word speed and from what I've read I'd expect him to be able to crack the lineup very regularly next season. The majority of the talent at UAA is in its 2nd and 3rd year players and they'll probably only be bringing in 3 or 4 players next season so August's addition is very important.

Lots of us believe that UAA is on the cusp on making noise in the incredibly tough WCHA (I swear it is like NHL playoff hockey every night) so we'll have high hopes that August can contribute to that effort right away.

I fully expect that by the time August is in his 4th year that he'll have NCAA playoff experience!

I'm taking the summer off from blogging but anyone who wants to follow August's freshman season can visit my blog next season to see how he's doing. Thanks for your info; especially the interview which gives us a great idea of his excitement joining the program.

Congrats to August on becoming a Seawolf!

Where is August? I was looking forward to his speed in the line-up. JWolf

Any word on when August will be joining the Seawolves, and what is he doing now. Since he turns 21 soon his junior eligibility will be gone.
